The grandest hall on the central axis of the Forbidden City, built during the Yongle reign. As China’s largest wooden structure, it dazzles with golden dragon motifs and a triple-tiered marble terrace.

2. The Hall of Mental Cultivation

From the Yongzheng reign onward, this became the Qing emperors’main residence and decision-making hub. The front hall was for state affairs, the rear for private life.

3. The Palace of Heavenly Purity

The emperors’residence and workspace, famed for the “Be Just and Honest” plaque symbolizing secret succession. It reflects both imperial authority and intimate family life.
